Dear Brothers and Sisters,
April 28th is soon approaching. For those not aware of the importance of the day, it is our International Day of Mourning. The National Day of Mourning or Workers' Day is observed on April 28 every year. It commemorates workers who have been killed, injures or suffered illness due to workplace relates hazards and occupational exposures.
A special point is that one sense of pride is that the Day of Mourning originated in Sudbury by CUPE!!! Now we recognize this globally!
"Around 1983, the health and safety director of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Colin Lambert, and his long-time friend and fellow activist, Ray Sentes, came up with the idea of a day to recognize workers killed and injured on the job."
Through the Sudbury and District Labour Council, we have worked hard to ensure our video commemorates the lives lost.
