Day of Mourning 2020

Today, as many people may be aware is the Day of Mourning. The day of Mourning is the labour movement’s most solemn day, but also one to refocus on our commitment to preventing future injuries and deaths.

May we never forget any member that has died on the job, and may we fight, so it doesn’t happen again.

This year the Day of Mourning will be different. It will be online starting at 10 am. Please visit to watch the video live. (The video can be viewed at ANY time)

As we are in the pandemic, now more than ever, frontline workers are at risk. May we remember any employee who may have been taken away way too early due to COVID-19. May we also pray for any worker or person fighting for their life due to COVID-19.

Thank you to all our front line, essential workers, for EVERYTHING YOU are doing through these difficult times. As an Executive Board, we could not be prouder of the brave, hardworking and dedicated members that we have! So a special thank you goes out to all our members.

However, the final part of this message goes to ALL workers, no matter who you are or where you work. Please stay safe. Wear all necessary PPE, and if your employer does not offer you PPE that protects you, say no! We work to live, not live to work. We especially do not and should not die for work!!! The Occupational Health and Safety Act was created to protect us due to unnecessary injuries from the past. Ensure you know the act! It can save your life!

On behalf of our Executive Board with CUPE Local 4705, thank you and stay safe!
